Lilian Ibengwe is a Senior Fisheries Officer of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, Tanzania. Ms. Ibengwe's career in Fisheries Management began at the Ministry; under different capacities, she has worked in the area of policy and planning of the Tanzania fisheries sector, to develop sustainable small-scale fisheries management strategies: including promoting community participation in collaborative fisheries management; support national capacities in small scale fisheries, planning and management of fisheries statistics and strengthening regional and international cooperation for implementation of small scale fisheries management policies in her country.
In 2012, she won a second Yamamoto Prize by Japan International Fisheries Research Society (JIFRS) in the Institute of International Fisheries Economics of Sustainable Fisheries, Aquaculture and Seafood Trade (IIFET) Conference, for her outstanding work in the development of strategies for responsible fishery management in Tanzania. Currently, Ms. Ibengwe is a Focal Point of SSF Guidelines implementation in Tanzania. Her education background includes BSc. (Honors) In Marine Biology and MSc. In Environmental Management and both from the University of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. She also attended a six months advanced training and research in the field of Fisheries Policy and Planning from the United Nations University Fisheries and Training Programme (UNU-FTP) Iceland and Fisheries Governance for Food Security from The Netherlands. She is currently pursuing a Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Fisheries, University of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania'
