Miyu Muraoka is a Master’s student at the School of Marine Studies at Tokai University, Japan, under Professor Yinji Li’s guidance. She completed her undergraduate studies at the same university. She has been interested in the roles and meanings of women’s contribution to fisheries. Her master’s thesis titled “Study on Gender Equality and Equity in Japanese Small-Scale Fisheries: Focusing on the Gender Gap Issues in Maritime Operations” specifically focuses on the current fact that only about 10% of the fishers and fish workers are female and tries to propose a better solution for securing small-scale fisheries sustainability.
