Valeria Mendoza De La Luz is pursing her graduate degree in the School of Environment, Enterprise and Development (SEED) at the University of Waterloo under the supervision of Prof. Prateep Kumar Nayak. Her research focuses on sustainable tourism planning and cross-sector partnerships, prospects and challenges for viability of small-scale fishery in Ría Lagartos, Mexico. She conducts her research based on sustainable and responsible tourism planning as a tool for sustainable development, and the prospects and challenges of small-scale fishing communities using the I-ADApT case study method. She explores the promising trends in fisheries management, the new roles of fishers in the tourism sector according to the Yucatan’s latest tourism and sustainability government plans.
