Zanira Shaaban Mpendu

Zanira Shaaban Mpendu was born in Dar es Salaam city, Tanzania. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Aquaculture from Sokoine University of Agriculture and is currently undertaking a Master's degree in Marine Sciences from the University of Dar es Salaam, Institute of Marine Sciences, Tanzania. Her interest in aquatic ecosystems increased during her undergraduate years as she undertook her research project in the mangrove ecosystems of the Tanga region, where human activities were destroying fish habitats. After completing her Bachelor's in aquaculture in 2022, she started her journey in marine sciences to gain more knowledge and hands-on experience in conserving marine resources. Her pursuit of a Master's degree through a research project is centered on making meaningful contributions towards the sustainable management of coastal and marine resources, protecting marine biodiversity and sustaining the livelihoods of coastal communities.
